My five year old son has just become a cancer survivor. A champion. Our family has been tested, our faith has been tested - but one thing is certain, without the very recent advances made in the treatment of pediatric cancer, I might not be writing the word "survivor".
50 years ago, our little boy would have been incurable. Today he is in remission and has an 85-90% chance to live a long and full life. Childhood Cancer is now curable in 78% of all cases and with more advances in research it is widely believed that the number can be raised to an 80% survival rate by 2008.
During treatment for my son, I realized I had a platform in my jewelry design company to raise additional funds, awareness and support for the research that I hope will one day put an end to childhood cancer. 75% of all profits from my "CKC" line will go to CureSearch. The remaining 25% of profit will continue to go to
Children's Hospital Boston where my son was treated and cured.
I founded DeiraRocks out of a love of fashion, design and a growing interest in the healing power that stones in nature hold. I am proud to create beautiful and healing pieces that seem to make the wearer feel peace as well as raise money to fight a disease that affects too many children.
Our "CKC" Jewelry is the gift that gives twice. Wear and you'll feel the power - not only of healing but of being part of new resources being provided to help conquer kids' cancer. Deira Gerritsen, Founder, Deira Rocks June, 2007 nJJedDeiraRocks
